Our kids have been attending a worldschool for the past 6 weeks and their final presentations were this afternoon. The focus of their session was on the UN Sustainable Development Goal #16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.

During their presentations, the kids shared their projects and ideas for creating positive changes within themselves, within their community at school, and around the world. Their young minds are full of possibility and hope, and I loved the repetition of the mantra “peace begins with me.”

Because it does…it begins with me. Regardless of the mission I am on or the thing I am currently struggling with, it begins internally. Peace can be replaced with many words…action, change, kindness, health, joy, trust…begins with me.

As I reflected on the things I’m working toward, this idea brought me renewed hope. It’s easy to place blame on external circumstances when roadblocks come around. But it’s empowering to remember that I have the power to change myself for the better, which directly impacts my community and world.
